Proton

When you play a game different kinds of Proton offer different advantages, if a game doesn't work on your version, try a different version using Steam's "force compatibility option". There's also some user made forks of Proton that come with optimizations but the only two I actually recommend are, Proton-GE or CachyOS-Proton. Only use the latter if you're actually on Cachy and feel free to try Proton-GE on any system to see if you actually like using it!

If you're on system packaged Steam you can just install the alternative proton from your distro's repo and if you're on Flatpaks you can just use a tool like ProtonPlus to install and integrate the changes (for Steam specifically just use system packages if you can because it makes it easier to tweak launch options also).
